Southern Cross to shut as landlords pull out
Wednesday 13th July 2011
Troubled care home operator Southern Cross is to close after landlords who own its property decided to leave the group.
Southern Cross said: "It is currently envisaged that the existing group will cease to be an operator of homes."
With uncertainty about what will happen next to its 31,000 residents the Government has stepped in to say they will not be made homeless.
It is thought that the group will now be broken up and sold to other providers.
The financial woes of Southern Cross - Britain's biggest care home operator - began after it revealed it could not pay its rent bills to its landlords.
