Metals prices prompt rise in thefts

Rising metals prices have triggered an increase in copper wire theft.

Thousands of homes have been left without phone or internet connections as thieves steal copper cable.

The Daily Mail said that a 300% increase in the price of copper had led to metal theft becoming the fastest-growing crime in the UK.

There has also been a sharp rise in theft of bronze, aluminium, lead and platinum, the paper reports.
